To celebrate the superstition surrounding the number 13 I put in extra effort to ensure that guitar no.13 is a bit out of the ordinary. This is the first guitar that I have built with a spine  - a little influence from German luthier Jeroen Hilhorst. It is also the first guitar I have made out of Pakauk.

  • Top: Engelmann Spruce
  • Back and Sides: Padauk
  • Armrest: Ebony
  • Neck: African Mahogany (Khaya)
  • Finish: French Polish of Shellac
  • Tuners: Der Jung
  • Accents: Tiger Maple

A special thanks to Ron Baker for capturing these wonderful photographs of the finished instrument and to Flameheart Studios for capturing some of the work in progress in the shop. Also, I would like to big up Michael Root for his job of playing this guitar in the semi-finals at the Appalachian Guitarfest Competition where Maya Loncar and Maryam Hajialigol reminded me why I exhaust myself with this art.
